ADHYAPAKA VYBHAVAM:
STUDENTS’ PSYCHOSOCIAL PROBLEMS IDENTIFICATION WORKSHOPS FOR TEACHERS

The workshop on Students’ Psychosocial Problem Identification  “ Adyapaka Vaibhavam” - a joint venture of the Corporate  Manager of Catholic Schools, Diocese of Kollam and St.Josephs’ Guidance and Counseling Centre  (SJGCC) , was inaugurated by Rt .Rev.Dr Stanley Roman, the Bishop of Quilon Diocese  on 30^th Aug. 2008. 

The goal of the workshop was to give an opportunity to the teachers of aided and unaided schools to identify the problems of students and to find solution for them. Early identification of potentially handicapping conditions is the key to early intervention and successful rehabilitation.  It is the teachers’ responsibility to help their students and take up early referral to counseling centres.

The workshops were held in eleven Saturdays from 30^th Aug to 13^th Dec. 2008 at SJGCC’s auditorium. The workshop sessions were led by Dr Jose Puthenveed , the former Head of Department of Psychology, Fatima Mata National College, Kollam. He is also Director and Chief Consultant Psychologist at SJGCC. Around 9500 teachers participated in the eleven –one day workshop.

 

OUR OUTREACH PROGRAM

This project has envisaged as a prelude to starting a school counseling service net-work in the schools under the management and in the Diocese.
